The Latest Trends in Flooring: Advantages of Luxury Vinyl Plank
Hardwood floors create a beautiful, classic look in any home or office and can be used with both casual and formal spaces. However, hardwood isn’t practical in high-traffic spots or anywhere the floor may be exposed to dampness, such as bathrooms or basements. Luxury vinyl plank flooring offers the character and graining of real hardwood floors while standing up to high traffic and water. These characteristics make luxury vinyl plank (also known as LVP) a great choice for both residential and commercial applications.
Layers Create a Realistic Look with Resilience
Luxury vinyl plank is manufactured with three or four layers that are fused together. These layers are the key to the excellent aesthetics and exceptional durability of luxury vinyl plank flooring. LVP layers include:
- Resilient Vinyl Backing – This backing and the layers of vinyl on top make LVP easier to stand on for long periods of time and warmer than hardwood or ceramic.
- Color and Photographic Layer(s) – LVP brands will have either one or two layers that create the aesthetics of the floor. Advanced photographic technologies allow realistic looks complete with graining or special styles such as distressed wood. LVP can also be designed to replicate standard and wide plank hardwood.
- Wear Layer – The top layer of LVP flooring is made or urethane or aluminum oxide. Typically this layer is 20 ml in thickness, but many manufacturers offer up to 40 ml. The floor is scratch, stain, and scuff resistant and holds up to water. This makes the look of hardwoods a practical and durable option in commercial or high-traffic residential areas. LVP floors are able to stand up to drink spills, muddy shoes, and bathroom splashes.
Easy Maintenance & Long Life
Simple sweeping or vacuuming and damp mopping is the most effective way to clean LVP flooring. In addition, LVP floors meet commercial requirements for slip resistance and flammability.
Many LVP floors offer 20-25 year warranties. Considering this type of durability and the excellent aesthetics, LVP floors are a great value. They provide the look and feel of rich, natural wood at a lower cost.
